Finsterforst interview

Some might be suprised that i’ve made such a short interview with the german Finsterforst, but i though, am not gonna ask the usual question, since everyone seems to be bored with that. So i’ve made it short, and Simon Schillinger, the guitarist of the folk band answered my questions.

First af all thank you, that you received my request for the interview, please introduce your band and tell about the beginnings!

Hello Zoli, we’re Finsterforst from southwest of Germany, Freiburg. Johannes Joseph (accordion), Tobias Weinreich (bass), Marco Schomas (vocals), Wombo (drums), AlleyJazz (keyboards), David Schuldis (rhythm guitars) and me, Simon Schillinger (lead- rhythm guitars). The band started in the end of 2004 with the idea to create some metal combined with maybe something like an accordion. In the first period of the existence of the band there were only Tobias, AlleyJazz, Marco and me. We started to compose some songs and entered a rehearsal room soon to try our luck. 😉 Later on after many months I asked a friend of mine, Johannes, if he would be interested into playing accordion in Finsterforst, cause it was obvious that this instrument will take a dominant part in our music. He was pretty motivated and into it. So after he joined the band, we also found with David another guitar player. Only a drummer was missing to complete our pagan horde from the forest. And then finally in September 2006 we found Wombo and welcomed him as the final member of Finsterforst. In the beginning of 2007 we started to perform live after we recorded already our first EP Wiege der Finsternis which was released at March of 2006. Our debutalbum Weltenkraft followed then back in July 2007 via the japanese label World Chaos Productions. We continued playing live some gigs and last year in July we recorded the epic heathenish piece …zum Tode hin will be released through Einheit Produktionen at February the 27th.

How did the public welcomed …zum Tide hin album?

So far we received great feedback and reviews from many Magazines and Webzines. We hope the people will love it, too, so that we can meet us on stage very soon to have some great party!

Maybe i’va got a problem, but i can tell only from a few bands, that they’re playing pagan- folk black metal or viking metal. You consider Finsterforst viking, how does it manifestates, and how could you live this in the regural days? I mean, that you didn’t sit in a boat with an axe in your hands as you’re on your ways to the battle, rather you’re working, you’ve got jobs and some of you’ve got a family…

Haha! Well, in my oppinion I wouldn’t call our music Viking Metal. Our lyrically themes have nothing to do with any vikings. It covers more themes about nature and mankind destroying it. Of course we stand behind our love to nature and by showing us on stage with mudd all over our bodies we try to make some show to entertain the audience. 😉

Would you like to send a message to the readers of Fémforgács?

I hope that many of you will listen to our new album and give us a chance to prove ourselves. The music gives you the opportunity to lean back and dive into your dreams. Just enjoy it and we’ll see us soon hopefully in Hungary! 😉

Something you’d like to say at the end?

Thank you very much for the interview. I wish all people a great time, to be healthy and to live without any worries! Take care and cheers!
