Forming nLillian Axe was Blaze's initial step into the world of rock'n'roll. At first the ngroup was playing mostly for fun, not expecting any colossal successes in the nfuture. The band's attitude towards their career changed when they got a nproposition to record their debut album in 1987. As Blaze recalls: „I started nthe band in 1984 with Johnny Vines, Mike Maxx, and Danny King. We played the ncircuit for several years until I was signed to M.C.A. records.” Unfortunately, ndue to the record deal signing some of the band members were replaced. Blaze: n”All in all, the line-up was myself on guitar, Ron Taylor on vocals, Danny King non drums, Jon Ster on rhythm guitar, Rob Stratton on bass.” Their self-titled ndebut LP was finally released in 1988. Containing ten electrifying compositions, nthe album showcased a variety of emotions, gathered both in heavy rocking tracks nas well as beautiful ballads. Producer Robbin Crosby (ex-guitarist of Ratt) nmanaged to capture the key elements of Lillian Axe's style, which blended into none powerful rock experience. One of the highlights of this record was the nopening track „Dream of a Lifetime”, released as the band's first single: „The nfirst time MTV played 'Dream of a Lifetime', I was watching Headbanger's Ball at nmy parents house.” – says Blaze. „I'll never forget how excited my Dad, who died ntwo and a half years ago, was when it came on. Every time I hear a song on the nradio, I still become very intent on listening.” After the release of the debut nLP, Lillian Axe went on a tour promoting their album. In 1989 Lillian Axe nreleased „Love + War”, the follow-up to their debut album. Musically it was ndefinitely a step forward, unfortunately MCA Records decided to drop the band nafter this release. The group returned in 1991 with a new record deal and two nnew band members – Darrin DeLatte (bass) and Gene Barnett (drums), who replaced nStratton and King. Lillian Axe's third LP, „Poetic Justice”, was so far their nbiggest commercial success, backed by the single „True Believer”. In 1993 the nband released „Psychoschizophrenia” with a new drummer – Tommy Scott. nUnfortunately, after the promotional tour for this album in 1995, Lillian Axe ndecided to disband. Lillian Axe ceased to exist until 1999, when the group nreformed to record „Fields of Yesterday”. After that release the group was nsilent for another eight years, when finally they returned with a new line-up n(consisting of Steve Blaze and Darrin DeLatte, along with new members: guitarist nSam Poitevent, drummer Ken Koudelka and vocalist Derrick LeFevre) and the recent nalbum „Waters Rising”. Today Lillian Axe is considered one of the most nunderrated melodic metal acts ever to emerge on the scene. Now, with these nexclusive reissues, new listeners can once again discover the potential of this nlate 80's metal phenomenon. As Steve Blaze says himself: „We are a different nbreed unto ourselves. We get lumped into certain categories that are not true nrepresentations of the band. We are a special animal and the only true way to nfigure us out is to listen carefully.””,1]
